Enhance Your Weekly Regimen with Wellness Activities

With Spring in the air, now is the perfect time to examine our overall state of mental and physical fitness. Let’s look at wellness activities that will guide us, like the yellow brick road, towards achieving better health.

Wellness programs focus on all aspects of our wellbeing. Adding a wellness program to our weekly regimen gives us the tools to adopt healthier lifestyle choices.

What is a Wellness?

We often refer to being in a state of wellbeing. In a way, this is directly related to what wellness is, a state of body and mind focused on combating daily life stresses. Wellness programs or regimens concentrate on activities that help to improve our lives, and we engage in wellness activities to achieve a healthier self that promotes wellbeing.

Benefits of Engaging in Wellness Activities

Adding wellness-fostering activities to our weekly regimen makes a big difference in our overall outlook. Engaging in practices that nurture our bodies and minds will improve the way we approach challenges in our lives and can influence how we respond to stress more optimistically and positively.

Productivity on the job will increase if you are happier and healthier. Wellness activities spread throughout the week will help you feel more balanced and cope with the unexpected.

Examples of Wellness Activities

Physical activity is only one aspect of maintaining wellness. Other activity types promote emotional and mental health and are highly effective in maintaining a healthier perspective. Here are some ideas for wellness activities that you can engage in, whether at work or during personal time.

Yoga

One of the most available wellness activities is Yoga, combining a mental and physical release of tension. Several yoga disciplines all target slightly different goals, depending on what you are hoping to achieve. Yoga can be done in almost any setting and is readily available in gyms and specialized wellness facilities, like Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center. It is always best to consult with a professional instructor to determine your personal needs and goals.

Physical Activity

There are numerous physical activities, from solo sports like swimming and cycling to group sports, that will promote a sense of wellness. Combining a couple of different options every week keeps things interesting. Walking is the most adaptable exercise to engage in, and taking a short walk daily, from fifteen minutes to a couple of hours, can do wonders for the body and brain. Nature walks are an excellent way to commune with the world around us and promote healing.

Meditation

For those of us with busy brains, meditation can be challenging initially. By sticking with it, you will experience a calming of nerves and thoughts. Finding a quiet or private space or out in nature, meditation is good for the brain, and usually, only five or ten minutes will do the trick.

Healthy Eating Choices

From cooking healthy recipes to cutting down on fast foods and meals rich in carbohydrates, we can start to see and feel a difference in our bodies. Daily doses of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and proteins will keep our minds sharp and more engaged and feed our muscles and organs.

Finding Other Outlets to Promote Wellness

Sometimes we can’t get away from our environment. We can instill new practices to enhance our daily wellbeing. Keeping a journal, listening to a favorite podcast, or even writing letters can distract us from stress and help us focus on what is essential.

Through engagement in wellness activities, we can learn new behaviors or habits to enhance our physical, emotional, and mental health. It is always best to consult your physician or medical care provider at Sankofa Health Center to discuss what activities will work with your current state of health.
